Abbeydorney Development Company was formed with the objective of developing the social, economic and cultural needs of the community and thereby improving the quality of life in the parish, with due regard to the environment. It carried out work in the restoration of “The Old Forge” in the centre of the village along with the erection of the monument, which commemorates the All Ireland Champion ploughmen of the parish. Also, the enhancement of the village by the building of stone walls at Dillon’s Cross and the Amenity Park in the centre of the village with the preparation of the erection of statue and memorials to former renowned work personalities with roots in Abbeydorney. The senior citizens of the Abbeydorney area also benefit greatly from the project as the Active Retired Faciliator organised social evenings for them on a fortnightly basis. The schemes also provides administration support to the Shannow FRC. Our researcher is sourcing local history to preserve it for future generations. The Community Laundry provides a low cost laundry service to the local community. The Environmental Workers maintain our garden beds, grass areas leading into the village and within the village park and assist within the maintenance and upkeep of the wildlife ducks area. As we are entering the Tidy Towns competition this year they ensure the village is clear of litter and access roads and presentable to the public.
