SMARTLab Skelllig has established a PhD Hub based in the Cahersiveen Library, with locally based candidates researching the region itself. They share their knowledge and learnings with their own communities and visitors who come to learn here and is positioning the Skellig region as an international research hub, giving expertise to other community groups. The CoDesRes researchers are part of SMARTlab Skelligs UCD. CoDesRes brings together an interdisciplinary team of artists, scholars, engineers and marine biologists. CoDesRes is part of a bigger vision; to develop a research ecology in Kerry by building on the recommendations that emerged from the Imagining Iveragh project, 2015 The Muinín Catalyst Project seeks to reverse the growing trend of youth migration out of the region, it directly engages youth through an integrated academic program developed by CoDesRes that allows them to see their place in the future of Iveragh. It is about showing youth what their region has to offer, and the opportunities they can take advantage of later in their careers. To create a thriving region where youth are inspired and feel a strong pride of place. All 3 groups are interconnected with the aim, to see economic growth in the area, and reverse population decline in South Kerry
