Its volunteers have been patrolling Banna Strand for over 34 years (founded 1983). The coverage area for our boat is from Brandon Head to Kerry Head including the Tralee Bay. The unit is operated by local volunteers who have undergone training under the auspices of the Irish Coastguard and Irish Water Safety. There are approximately 20 members in the unit comprising of both crew and a management committee. Banna Strand has always been one of the busiest beaches in the country, however there has been a noticeable surge in visitor numbers due to the association with the “Wild Atlantic Way” and being voted the best beach in Ireland (Social Media : TripAdivisor 2017). Kerry Comhairle na nOg is a youth-led initiative that has around 60 members spread throughout the county. They meet in sub-committees in Killarney, Listowel, Tralee and Caherciveen as well as the large group meeting every two months in Tralee. Recent topics that the comhairle have taken on include mental health and drug and alcohol awareness. In terms of mental health the young people organised a mental health first aid training course for teachers and youth workers, and they also organised a colour run on Banna Beach to promote positive mental health. For their drugs and alcohol topic they designed and developed 'Hugs not Drugs' wristbands, ran information stands in their schools, helped launch an information booklet and made a DVD with signposting information to help services. This year the comhairle are working on the topics of sexual health and youth information. | |

Pool Facilities Kingdom Swimming Club uses Tralee Sports Centre, Oakpark, Tralee, Co.Kerry. The pool has five lanes and is 25 metres in length. The Centre operates a modern shared style changing facility. Many training sessions are carried out while a portion of the pool is also available to public swimmers. It is quite common for Club swimmers and public swimmers to use the changing rooms simultaneously. Our main work is attempting to raise awareness with people and communities about how we are currently living and how sustainable it is.
